This year’s annual Pubcon conference was a success, which comes as no surprise. Pubcon is an educational conference, and related trade show, held at varying locations each year by the company of the same name based in Austin, Texas. Every year since 2000 they have held this conference with the purpose of educating businesses about internet marketing and search engine optimization. This year was our 8th year participating and we were not at all disappointed with the amazing speakers and information we received.

Pubcon creates a unique opportunity for industry specialists to come together and discuss the problems and opportunities happening in internet marketing and optimization. It also grants us an opportunity to meet with top specialists from Google and companies like Aimclear who can show us what changes might be coming in the field of marketing research and how to stay ahead of the curve. Many of the sessions presented at the conference are educational and informative, but the speakers are what makes each session special and their expertise enhances the information they have to give and the knowledge they have to share.

The highlight of this conference was definitely a session provided by Aimclear about Facebook targeting, featuring Susan Wenograd and, founder of Aimclear, Marty Weintraub. Susan is a 12-year veteran in the digital marketing industry and has been studying and utilizing target marketing since then. Her original expertise started with A/B testing, copy, and digital marketing metrics but has since expanded to specializations in Facebook and Google marketing. Her real interest now is Facebook marketing and targeting, which is what she spoke on at Pubcon. Recently, Susan has joined Aimclear’s self-proclaimed “rock star roster” of talented specialists in her field and she will be working alongside founder and creative director of Aimclear, Marty Weintraub.

Marty has his own list of impressive accomplishments to boast about. He has led his company Aimclear to win 11 US Search Awards, including 3 times Best Integrated Agency and Best Use of Social in A Search Campaign. Aimclear’s well-read and followed blog has been included in highly acclaimed lists such as, Top 10 Small Business Blogs, Top Ten Social Media Blogs and PRWeb’s 25 Essential Public Relations Blogs You Should Be Reading. He is personally the winner of four "Top 25 Most Influential PPC Experts" awards, Top 100 Twin Cities People to Know, and was honored with the "US Search Personality of the Year.” His expertise in his field is non-negotiable and his insight was incredibly helpful, especially regarding Facebook Targeting, which is a technique we already utilize with our own clients but we are always eager to learn more.

There were many other speakers at this year’s conference, including Ben Morss (a Developer Advocate with Google) and Gary Illyes (a Webmaster Trends Analyst also working for Google). Both were there to give insight into what projects Google is working on and what they will have in the coming year. Ben in particular spoke on the AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) Project which is “an open-source initiative aiming to make the web better for all. The project enables the creation of websites and ads that are consistently fast, beautiful and high-performing across devices and distribution platforms.” I’m sure we can expect great things from Google in the next year.

All in all, this conference was a large success and we look forward to every opportunity we have to learn from marketing experts about what we can and should be doing to embrace the future of marketing research. These marketing conferences give us the chance to speak directly with Google specialists and learn even more about the kinds of marketing we specialize in, namely Facebook marketing, and the strategies we use to employ them.
